OPENING FOR EXHIBITION APPLICATIONS // NORDIC ANTHOLOGY #4

NORDIC ANTHOLOGY is a new exhibition space within Fotogalleriet, dedicated to Nordic artists, curators and and cultural thinkers graduated from higher education during the past five years.

Fotogalleriet wishes for the broadest approach possible for these premises, including not only visual artists, but also graduates from any other department included within the approaches of Art and Design Academies.

The NORDIC ANTHOLOGY platform is created at the occasion of Fotogalleriet’s 40th anniversary in 2017, to which the institution is dedicating a year-long program marking a reflection on its existence and pursuits, mapping historical and contemporary photographic usages and developments, and confronting multiple curatorial researches and approaches raised by image-based art.

Fotogalleriet’s standing point as a photographic gallery works as a thought-provoking experience expanding the medium and its contexts, developing alternative systems for contemporary practices since artists increasingly work across traditional media and genres, and as photography has become an universal convenience in our digital age.

The NORDIC ANTHOLOGY open call will be repeating itself four times along the year, allowing multiple flexibilities.

HOW TO APPLY

The applicant must have graduated from higher education within the past five years.

The applicant must have a connection to the Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Åland Islands).

The applicant must provide Fotogalleriet with a project description, project images and a Curriculum Vitae through the online application portal HERE. Applications sent by mail will not be accepted.

For any additional questions, please call (+47) 22 20 05 59 or contact Martina Petrelli at [email protected]

ELIGIBILITY

NORDIC ANTHOLOGY is dependent on the financial support granted by Nordic cultural organisations.

This is why the open call is restricted to applicants with a connection to the Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Åland Islands).

This is the case if the artist is based in one of these countries, has stayed in one of these countries for a considerable amount of time (studies, residency) and/or possesses citizenship of one of those countries. Exhibition projects are also eligible if their content has a connection to the Nordic countries.

The applicant can make a proposition for an exhibition (or other presentation format such as performance, book presentation, film screening or curatorial approach) in the designated space at Fotogalleriet, Oslo (see floorplan below).

The applicant must have graduated from higher education within the past five years.

Exhibition projects that do not apply to these rules will not be considered.

There will be a program including sixteen (16) Nordic Anthology exhibitions during 2017, of which selection will be taken by the artistic director of Fotogalleriet.

REWARD AND EXPOSURE

Sixteen (16) selected exhibition projects will be exhibited at Fotogalleriet during the year 2017 for a period of two weeks each.

Fotogalleriet will provide the NORDIC ANTHOLOGY artists with a small artist fee, and will oversee the NORDIC ANTHOLOGY support for production, promotion and social events.

Additional funding might be required, relating to the parameters of the selected projects.

The NORDIC ANTHOLOGY program will be ongoing and parallel to the main exhibition program at Fotogalleriet, using the institution as a platform to allow professional growth and exchanges between upcoming and established artists and their public.

The dedicated space for the NORDIC ANTHOLOGY platform is a minor part of Fotogalleriet’s gallery.

Nordic Anthology project room finds itself when entering the main exhibition space on the right, and it entails a floor space of approx. 15 m2, three wall surfaces of approx. 12 running meters of white painted walls, and one large window. (See floorplan below)
