LET'S TALK ABOUT IMAGES 2.1.0 #EXERCISE NO. 6: ANAHITA ALEBOUYEH

ANAHITA ALEBOUYEH LAUNCHES HER MANIFESTO

Duration: 20 – 24 May
Location: Fotogalleriet's Instagram

To tackle the current moment of crisis, Fotogalleriet has asked reputable and young artists, and art professionals to guide us through their thinking processes, generating an alternative space for critical thinking and advocating new forms of freedom and togetherness.

For the sixth week of the programme, we are excited to present artist Anahita Alebouyeh, who during this week will present an art manifesto, rolling out brand new merch in the process.

In the solitude caused by the pandemic, Anahita Alebouyeh turned her gaze inwards, departing from her own personal perspective and practice. She is now ready to share her artist manifesto with us, the audience. This public proclamation will only be presented in oral form –not in writing– and can be interpreted as a subjective reflection of her own practice, oras a series of suggestions to how “the artist” may move forward.

After my father passed away my mindset changed. I came to the conclusion that life is too short, so if I am to make art for someone, it should give the viewer something worth their while.
– Anahita Alebouyeh

Through her practice Alebouyeh examines and enhances everyday life performatively by exploring cultural phenomena, such as characters and elements coming from pop culture. References from reality shows, pop music, slapstick and stand-up comedy come together in her artistic landscape, through satire and humour. By inviting the audience into her alternate world, Alebouyeh aims to suggest new ways of looking at and processing our immediate surroundings. She also points out at a poetic change of these cultural phenomena, focusing on what occurs when they are translated and performed in a new context. Admist a floating chaos, oscillating between embarking on small adventures and producing new critical images, Alebouyeh explores new ways of communicating with her beloved audience.

This week you can experience Alebouyeh’s proclamation through the invisible and visible tunnels of the Internet. The physical closeness of her worlds comes through a limited edition piece of clothing binding us together.

Anahita Alebouyeh’s manifesto will be made available digitally through Fotogalleriet's Instagram TV, and her merchandise online via Fotogalleriet's bookstore.
